Subject: Germany

Far-right parties have made gains in eastern Germany, poll projections show. Today there had been elections in two of the new German countries which formerly belonged to the GDR. The ultra-right National Democratic Party and the German People's Union are set to earn assembly seats by polling 9% in Saxony and 6% in Brandenburg respectively. The ex-communists of the Party of Democratic Socialism also did well in Brandenburg, but the mainstream parties still won in both states holding votes.

The results reflect anger at welfare cuts and wider disillusionment. Voters in eastern Germany also appear to have expressed their concern at the high unemployment they blame on Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrats.

Nevertheless I think it is not excusable to vote for ultra right parties, regarding German history, and I am highly disappointed. Many Germans already wish there would be a new wall again, with all these comlaining neo-Fascists East Germans behind.

I am disgusted and feel ashamed to be a German. Not only the economic situation is getting worse and worse, but also morality, modesty and education. Not to speak of the fact that believing and practicing Christians are the minority here. But the worst is the incredible stupidity of people. This is not only a problem of underdeveloped muslimic countries. People seem to never learn from history which would be the least to expect. As Einstein said, "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
