] Date Posted: 15:09:27 04/15/05 Fri I have a question with regards to the Golden Triangle Trip. My girlfriend and I are very interested but she has heard all kinds of rumors of it being very dangerous (people getting hit by motorhome side mirrors) and that its a very hard ride! I'm up for the challenge but she's needing a little more convincing!! Thanks, Stacey [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 22:39:23 04/25/05 Mon Hi Stacey, If you have ridden 100km in one day before, then imagine doing that 3 days in a row, and that the first and third day are done over mountain passes. That's basically what the GT is about. Yes, it *is* a hard ride, but very doable with the right preparation and approach. The first time I did it, my training consisted of 5 rides totaling 268km, with the longest ride being 83km, and the shortest 31km (I'm anal about keeping records :-) I was very tired when I finished, but I finished. You should plan to be on the road for a total of 7 hours and a bit each day including stops. That's at most an 18km/hr riding pace (110km divided by 6hr actual riding). During your training, try to ride faster than that and slow you pace down while on the tour. It will seem easier that way. As far as being run over by motorhomes, it's possible but rare. You should be OK if you pay attention. Just get out and ride! Dave [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
