You're statistics are right, your interpretation is wrong.

I'll start off with a quote from the EPA's website on the matter...

...Global mean surface temperatures have increased 0.5-1.0°F since the late 19th century. The 20th century's 10 warmest years all occurred in the last 15 years of the century. Of these, 1998 was the warmest year on record. The snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere and floating ice in the Arctic Ocean have decreased. Globally, sea level has risen 4-8 inches over the past century. Worldwide precipitation over land has increased by about one percent. The frequency of extreme rainfall events has increased ...

The mean temperature has indeed increased a mere 1°F, a paltry sum. The thing is, this increase isn't evenly spread. The largest impact has been in the northern hemisphere, causeing rising sea levels, shorter winters, floods in some regions and droughts in others. To speak of what I know, precipitation in Canada has fallen dramtically and as War noticed there has been a visible change in climate here over the past decade. If things continue how they are going, there will be another drought this summer and some real scorching temperatures, which will in turn wreak havoc with crops yet again. Global warming is a very serious issue.

What really pisses me off is people who are happy about the lack of snow this winter. I've heard of short sided, but that's just plain being stupid. Without the run-off from the snow water levels across the country are going to continue to fall, crops are going to continue to die and the economy is going to continue it's downward spiral. But as long as the car starts up easy in the morning they don't care.
