Raccoons are good climbers and can manage trees, downspouts, brick, corner moldings and so on. Hopefully there are no babies so that the mom doesn't damage the house getting back in. The most important thing to do is to inspect the entire outside of the house and the attic. Soffits, soffit / roof joints, attic fans, roof vents, gable vents, roof just behind gutters all need to be checked for damage. If you do find damage, don't fix it until someone inspects it for animals. Once your sure there are no animals inside, an exclusion should be done to help prevent future damage.

Raccoons climb downspouts by grabbing behind the gutter with their front feet and wedging their back feet up the outer portion of the downspout. Any thing you can do to keep their front feet from grabbing behind the gutter will help. You may also try keeping the lower portion of the downspouts loose so that rain water will not detatch it but a climbing raccoon would pull it off.

Check for damage
Make sure animals are out
Exclude all possible entry points
Trim Trees
Don't feed any wildlife, including birds
Have the raccoon arrested for peeping

Good Luck,
