Subject: Rezoning uptown Freeport

The town council wants to put on Nov refer. a question on rezoning uptown Freeport. Now if anyone has visited Freeport lately they have discovered many many new stores. Now the town council wants to rezone it so that they can make the sidewalks smaller and alleys between stores smaller so that they can allow more stores to comeinto the shopping area. They also want to expand north and south on Rt 1.

There are already so many stores it would take days to go through all of them. And most of them are from out of state, and more then half of them close down during the winter months. No concept about the town folks that actually live here.

They say that it will help with taxes. Sure, NOT. There are already a great number of new stores within the last two years and the taxes here are going up and up and up. So where is the tax relief for the people that live here. I haven't seen any at all.

I am going to vote against rezoning the uptown shopping area of Freeport. I think that there are already WAY to many stores now, that are mainly targeted for the outerstater. I feel that the town council are not taking into consideration the people that live here, and most that work, are working out of the town of Freeport. So where is it helping or going to help the citizens that are here year round??

Just my thoughts on town councils wanting to do for outerstaters and not for their own citizens. I thought we were the ones that put them there, they surely aren't doing anything for us.
