of the romantic mystery of it all. I always imagine who it might have belonged to or where it might have traveled from.

Of course the items I own which were passed to me from my own family- those I hold dear because of the history and the sense of ancestry. They give me a feeling of security- of "roots". And I look forward to passing them along to my girls one day.

But it's the things I find in the shops that excite me and get my imagination going! Like the antique engagement ring my dear Jason picked up at a pawn shop before we were married- it is absolutely the most beautiful thing I own. Even after almost 11 years I can stare at it forever, my mind wondering what the woman was like who first wore it on her finger. Where did she live? Was she madly in love with her groom? Why did she give the ring up? Was her marriage a happy one? I will never know, but I know that I would never feel this way about a brand new ring purchased from a jeweler. I would almost always prefer vintage to new.
