Your kitchen sounds wonderful Gayla! I think the rolling chair idea is great- I don't suffer from arthritis but there are times I would like to have a chair in there to rest on while I am cooking!

My kitchen is sort of mix-and-match, and since I rent my house, I am not able to do all the things I would like to do with it. I have 2 sets of dishes that we use regularly- one has a bright floral pattern and the other has a cobalt blue pattern that looks like brushstrokes. We mix them together and they are pretty. We have been enjoying using our glass dishes at meals together for a year or so, instead of the yucky plastic stuff we used for a long time before that. I think it is important for the girls to be comfortable handlng them, and I do not want to have them be afraid of breaking the dishes. We also use quite a few serving pieces that have come from my grandmother and DH's, in a variety of colors and patterns. My favorites are a pink pressed glass cream and sugar, and an ivory serving bowl with black and pink birds flying across it.

When I purchase a home, the kitchen will be one of the most important things to me. There are a few things that will be essential to me, in order for it to become my dream kitchen. At the top of the list is that it will need to be open to the living area of the house, or at least have a large enough space to include a comfortable sitting area with a love seat or something, so that everyone can congregate there. My current kitchen has adequate space for moving around while cooking, but it is seperated from the dining room and the living area of our house, so I get to feeling somewhat isolated when family and friends are congregated in those areas. I want to be able to cook and putter while also being a part of what is going on with everyone else!

Another thing I plan for my kitchen one day is to collect a mix & match set of china in various shades of white and off white. I plan to pick up one piece at a time so that each person's setting will be unique and different. I want whiet and off white so i can easily change the color of the tablecloth and napkins, or even the entire decor of the kitch en and dining area without worrying about the dishes matching. This is a dream I think abut often, but until I am settled in a home where we will stay, (and have more adequate cabinet space) I am resisting the urge to buy things. My cabinets are so cramped that I can barely fit my current dishes, and a mixed set will definitely take up more space because it may not nest as nicely.

I think the kitchen is the area where I am most enthralled with vintage items- I absolutely adore vintage kitchen linens and glassware. My favorite little bowl with the black and pink birds is my inspiration piece for the decorating I have done in my head- I would love a black and off-white kitchen with pink accents, and I will paint the little birds from my grandmother's bowl up somewhere on the wall! Sigh. Someday...

For now I do enjoy resh flowers and a nice clean countertop is essential so that I can get in there to cook or do whatever else I want. My kitchenaid mixer sits ready and waiting in the corner so I can mix anything up in a jiffy!

That's about it- thanks for listening to me dream!
