Have no fear Megan, joining the guard will be the best decision of your life! If you are going medical, you will more than likely be in the St. Martinville unit. That is where I drill out of and I will look forward to seeing you there. Basic training is a challenge and you will only cut the grass with scissors if you do not follow the rules and decide to go against a drill sergeant. If you follow orders and do what you are supposed to do, you will excel in the training environment. You will meet friends to last a lifetime and will mature almost half your age. The guard does pay for your college, as long as it is a state accredited university, not a private college. I make a nice amount of money for my weekend drills and the GI Bill for you in college will help out a lot. Dont listen to people who have made the military into negative experience. I say give it a try and see what it can do for you. If you dont, you will always find yourself wondering "what if?" Good luck with your decision!
