Wylan gave a yawn as his Daddy picked him up, and smiled up at him with shy, quiet eyes. "Daddy." He repeated, seeming content. He curled up against W'ntyr's chest, not even seeming to notice when his sister objected. He wanted Daddy, too! And he'd proved it!

After I've cried my last...

Elaini's eyes filled with tears at his words. It was not truely the words that tore into her, but the sound of his voice. His voice was precious to her, and she thought she'd never hear it again... shards, she was even thinkingof speaking with Wessae about being transferred soon. Not Rinali, of course; she couldn't stand talking to her mother-in-law as much as she could W'ntyr,probably even more. The woman was strict, and Elaini doubted she had any honour left in the woman's eyes. her own grey ones blinked back tears.

"I... I dunno..." she whispered. "Do... do..." she swallowed' what was so hard about this? "Do.. you want me to... leave... again?"

It was evident in her voice this was not what she wanted now that she faced him again.

There'll be beauty from pain...
