The nurse nodded a little and offered a smile. It was much safer for the baby and the mother to use a local anethetic rather than a general- so Nina was awake and aware- though still very drowsy and sedated. The nurse lead him over to stand by her head, her long brown curls were hiden by a plastic cap and tubes were going into her, linked up to the IV that was keeping her alive. As soon as Joey got up by Nina's head her eyes darted up to him, no trace of fear or anxiety in them... if anything she was calm and resigned- something she was rarely.
