In reply to: Glen 's message, "Please tell us about your smoking Saturday" on 01:03:58 08/19/06 Sat

Hello all. Glen I'm a late starter who was conservative in my early years. At 27, I'm a rebel of sorts. I had may first cigarette right after 2005 arrived. I kind of liked the things but wasn't sure how my husband was thinking. He was allowing me to smole but he's so nice, he masks his true feelings.
A couple of weeks after my first puff, we faced a Saturday with nothing on the agenda. My husband said that would mark a perfect time for me to smoke. Guess that answered that.
I think my mother was involved in anti-rebellion as far as smoking. Backtracking on this, it seems she and dad were going together with marriage plans. Apparently, once away from her parents, she was going to take up smoking.
In the mother-daughter before the marriage, my grandmother stressed the harms of smoking and drinking. Apparently my mother promised she would not enter into such sinful things.
So, my dad got a wife who was not going to be a smoker afterall. For more than 25 years, the standoff continued. Then, I visited and admitted I was a smoker. My sister, completing college, took advantage to say "me too."
Our next visit, mom was smoking. She said "don't say a word."
Apparently mom achieved her original pre-wedding goal and tried to quit smoking. Now, she does not want to stop smoking although dad has told her it would be fine if she did.
Last night, we went out and she showed no interest in slowing down. We also joined Bev and Weslie at Starbucks where the 4 or us sat outside and smoked.
