Continued wishes of good luck Megan. Marilyn, the lady who will head up our accounting department as soon as orientation is over is allowing the meeting area adjoining her office to remain as a designated smoking area. She does not smoke but the previous head accountant did smoke and got the office to be a smoking area. Some employees are accustomed to using the area to smoke.
Rather than rock the boat, Marilyn has said she will allow the smoking to go on. A lot of the smell gets into her office that she occupies except for the hour of orientation.
She joked today that when she went home last night, her daughters asked if she had been smoking. In addition to her denial, her son Brian brought home a girl at the office named Sherry who confirmed that Marilyn has not been smoking in her new office.
Brian lives and works elsewhere and is Marilyn's son born when she was 17. Born to a different dad no longer Marilyn's husband are girls 17 and 15.
Sherry said she started to ask the girls if they smoked. Marilyn said they know they better not but that's no guarantee they never do.
Tara, the known smoker of the group, asked Marilyn if she ever smoked a cigarette. Yesterday Marilyn said she smoked a very few cigarettes in her late teens after Bryan was born. Betty asked if the smoke from the office made her consider having another cigarette.
"Nope," Marilyn said. Meanwhile, Tara is living temporarily at Sherry's parent's house. Sherry is considering moving out and rooming with Tara. Betty, the other new young lady said to include her, also. Marilyn said there is a 3 bedroom setup above her. She said it is an old house divided into 2 2-bedroom apartments downstairs with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a kitchen upstairs.
"You have to enter on a stairs from the back porch," she said. "But, you have a front porch with a view but no outside access in the front."
The girls said they would look at it. Tara started the week living with Lance, the new guy, but returned to smoking which was something Lance could not take. Lance did volunteer that Tara could go out on the porch and smoke.
"Me too with a glass of wine every so often" said Betty, who says she carries a pack to have hand when she goes drinking. "Sherry could come out with us," Tara said. "And drink Sherry, of course," Tara added. Betty told Marilyn she would also be welcome. Sherry said she would just drink in the view.
Betty is 23 and took 5 years to get out of college. Lance and Tara graduated in 4 years and are 22, and Sherry graduated early and is 21. Sherry has had 2 after-work dates since meeting Brian, Marilyn's son.
