Well, to start off, yes, it is probably best to seperate the mother from the babies, and give the babies their own tank. (Spoiled lil' bugers). As for food, I'd go with hatching your own baby brine shrimp. You can buy eggs at just about any pet store. they are really easy to hatch and will help the fry grow and improve their color (and with guppies that's a bonus). If you don't want to mess with live foods you can get Tetra Min "L" (not "e", e is for egglayers, you have a livebearer). But powered food is no subsitute for live food. You will always be better off with live food, but powdered will do as long as you don't plan on saving any for show.
