Awww - you too!
I was going to ask how many people are wearing green today just for traditions sake (and so they don't get pinched by those pesky leprachauns)?
Also, will anyone partake of green beverage? I made my son a green smoothie this morning and have corned beef and cabbage (oh - pity the fool that gets near me after that!) in the slow cooker.
~not Irish.

Erin go braugh!
Yeah, so I am only Irish by injection. LOL Ok, so that has an ewwwwwww factor to it, but I still find it funny. Anyway. Gonna go party with my honey pie tonight. I might even throw some Corn beef and Cabbage together. Looks easy enough in the recipe, but I am sure it won't be as good as his mother makes. What ya gonna do?
Happy St. Paddy's to ya all!
oh and here is my song of the day.Hubby's favorite punk band the Dropkick Murphy's Right click that title and you just might get to hear it for yourself. Rowdy drunken Irish song that it is.
Kiss Me, I'm Shitfaced Lyrics ~Dropkick Murphys
I play in a band
We're the best in the land
We're big in both Chelsea and France
I play one mean guitar and then score at the bar
There's a line of chicks waiting for their chance
So come on now honey, I'll make you feel pretty
These other gals mean nothing to me
Let's finish these drinks and be gone for the night
'Cause I'm more than a handfull you'll see
[CHORUS:]
So kiss me I'm shitfaced
I'm Soaked I'm soiled and brown
in the trousers she kissed me
And I only bought her one round
I can bench press a car
I'm an ex football star
with degrees from both harvard and yale
Girls just can't keep up
I'm a really love machine
I've had far better sex while in jail
I designed the Sears tower
I make two grand an hour
I cook the world's best duck flambe
I'll take the pick of the LITTER
And girls jockey for me
I don't need these lines to get laid
[CHORUS]
I'm the man of the night
A real ladies delight
See, my figure was chisEled from stone
One more for the gal then I'll escort her home
Come last call, I'm never alone
I own a house on the hill with a red water bed
It puts Hugh Hefner's mansion to shame
With girls by the pool and italian sports cars
I'm just here in this dump for the gain
[CHORUS x2]
Ahh, fuck it. Who am I shittin'?
I'm a pitiful SIGHT
And I ain't all that bright
I'm definitly not chisEled from stone
I'm a cheat and a liar
No womAn's desire
I'll probably die cold and alone
But just give me a chance
Cause deep down inside
I swear I got a big heart of gold
I'm a monogamous man
No more one night stands
Come on, Honey let me take you home

By injection! LOL! :)
I just always think of "What would you do with a drunken sailor...what would you do with a drunken sailor? What would you do with a drunken sailor early in the morn'in? Put him in the long boat till he's sober, put him in the long boat 'till he's sober, put him int he long boat 'till he's sober early in the morn'in." My son likes the Dropkick Murphys.
I normally watch Darby O'Gill and the Little People every year, but I have packed away the old VCR. I can either get that out or change tradition and watch Ned Devine instead. What would you do?

I'll happily drink the beer, but what's so damned special about the Irish, anyway?
Where's French or German or Swedish Day? What about Nigerian or Australian or Brazillian Day?
Like I said, don't get me wrong, I'll take any excuse to down a few pints of Guinness....

I'm half Irish and catholic.
Gee I wonder what we would do on St.Swedish day? Celebrate with some swedish meatballs.
Or St.Germans Day, We could still celebrate with beer. Is Heineken german beer? it comes in green bottles.
23 you totally confused me.
btw, offtopic again. I'm going to this new Brazilian restaurant. It's called Carnivale and it's buffet style with brazilian bar-b-que.

Wait - what does an Irish Catholic person do for St. Patrick's Day when it falls on Lent? I know corned beef is an American thing...but how can you partake in a celebration on Lent?

Some Bishop has announced a special exception for today. Catholics are OK to eat meat.
I heards it on za radio.
And how did I confuse you, tg? I just find it odd that the Irish get this special holiday. Ain't nothin' special about the Irish. Nothin' any more special than any other country.

Well, it's a funny holiday, since it's not for the Irish, but more about the SAINT being Irish. The only thing considered Irish is wearing green, because Ireland is the emerald island. Those other countries you mentioned just need to find themselves a good saint. No I guess Oktoberfest would be the German comparison and Brazil would be Mardi-Gras or Carnival.

Re: Happy St.Paddy's Day!! -- Jes, 15:08:05 03/17/06 Fri [1]
23 - because no other group of people could come up with leprachaun folk lore. King Brian and the like. The Germans have their dumb garden knomes - the Chinese have their dragons, but the Leprachaun - eye that's the best creature of all. Just try to outwit one. :)
I have a book on irish folklore at home and one of my favorite stories is in there.
There's this aging Irish couple. They go to the store and get their tin of soap. In the tin - the inside lid is polished like a mirror. Being poor older Irish folk, they'd never seen a mirror before. Once all the soap has been used, the Irish gentleman looks into the mirror and says "Pop! Ya can see me through this mirror, though you have been dead for years!" And thinking the tin mirror was his connection between himself and his long passed father, he grew quite fond of the tin and kept it in his pocket all day long. He took his Dad into the fields with him. He took his Dad to the pub. All the while, his wife watched him take this out and talk to it. When she'd ask to see it, he'd shield it in his pocket and deny her. She was a conniving woman and could not be trusted after all. "It is my father." he'd say and quickly leave the house.
SO, one night as he lay sleeping one night, his wife snuck out of bed. She reached for the tin, open it and exclaimed "I God, if this is the type of woman you like lookin' at, you've no need for me!" She saw an older woman in the mirror - care worn with wrinkles and ruddiness. This woke her husband up and he said "But Katie, tis my Pop." "No - you are lying to me. I see it with my own two eyes - tis a witch!" "Tis my pop." "I see a witch." After about an hour of going back and forth, they decided it was evil. So they burnt it in the fire.

My son just left for his St.Paddy's Day party and all the green plastic tophats at the $store were sold out, so I bought him a green bandana. He's going Irish pirate style! hehehe

Mine has a family dance tonight at school. I can't imagine why he doesn't want to go - I do the best booty shake and tootsie roll. I made sure I'd know all the latest dances.
lol. He's been pissy all week because they've been learning dances in gym. Yesterday he asked me what the heck a cotton eye was so of course I had to sing him the song so he'd know how cool I am. Where did you come from where did you go, where did you come from cotton eyed Joe.
I'm being sarcastic. He is not at the right age to want to take his MOM to a dance. :)

Saint, schmaint.
Nobody gives a crap about the saint.
It's Irish Day.
We have America Day (4th of July), Irish Day and Mexican Day (Cinco de Mayo). I guess there is some relevance - the countries that have large immigrant communities here in teh US.
It's a non-issue. I don't even know why I brought it up. Bored as shit and I feel like avoiding work.

Dammit - I told you it was because of Leprachauns!
I didn't realize that the "snakes of Ireland" where actually the non-catholics, not literally snakes.

You know what's weird we celebrate Victoria Day on May24th in Canada and it's because of Queen Victoria (her b-day). I don't even think they do that in England.
Another one is Boxing Day which is Dec26th and it's like your Thanksgiving Day Sale shopping day. We also do Thanksgiving in October.

Trust me people here will get behind any day where they think you can get fucked up. So yeah, it's the dtinking that makes it specail to anyone who is not in Irland.
I mean all of LA gets pissing drink for Cinco de Mayo too , and most can't even give you the correct meaning of the day.

We don't have enough excuses to enjoy life. :) I'm all for blindly celebrating with beer and other alcoholic drinks.
