Subject: the beautiful people

Baby You’re A Rich Man (the Beatles)

How does it feel to be
One of the beautiful people
Now that you know who you are
What do you want to be
And have you traveled very far
far as the eye can see

How does it feel to be
One of the beautiful people
How often have you been there
Often enough to know
What did you see when you were there
Nothing that doesn't show

Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too
You keep all your money in a big brown bag
inside a zoo, what a thing to do
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too

How does it feel to be
One of the beautiful people
Tuned to a natural E
happy to be that way
Now that you've found another key
What are you going to play

Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too
You keep all your money in a big brown bag
inside a zoo, what a thing to do
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too

"Billboard is reporting that former SOUNDGARDEN and current AUDIOSLAVE frontman Chris Cornell has been selected by John Varvatos, the man behind the award-winning clothing brand, to be the face of the brand's spring 2006 ad campaign.

Created by New York agency Yard, with photography by music documentarian Danny Clinch, the campaign captures Cornell in such New York locations as Greenwich Village and Central Park.

The Cornell campaign runs for six months and includes print, Internet and outdoor advertising. Though Cornell is identified in the campaign, his band affiliation is not. "You either know who it is or you don't," says Donna Faircloth, Varvatos VP of marketing.

It was the same scenario when AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry and roots-rocker Ryan Adams appeared in Varvatos' fall 2005 and spring 2005 campaigns, respectively.

Cornell's deal included a "financial element," says Stephen Niedzwiecki, creative director with Yard. But, he adds, the Varvatos brand "doesn't have massive budgets to pay talent." Said another way, in lieu of a high fee, Cornell's cool quotient may be ratcheted up a notch or two. "

Oh and John "Varvatos", is a greek name so I'm sure the new wifey was involved.

Yeah, I do like it, art(photography), fashion and music always a good blend. I'm not crazy about the clothes though.

Yeah, the apparent new wifey influence is part of the reaction. I think the CC site make-over will have the same influence. I look forward to seeing more 'candid' shots of the happy family man with well-stylized hair and make-up.

By his behavior you'd think Chris would have learned something from his first marriage. Here's to his future lawsuits!

Nothing could make that jacket cool.

Here's the larger article:
By Michael Paoletta

NEW YORK (Billboard) - John Varvatos, the man behind the award-winning clothing brand, is always looking for artists with "real" rock roots. These are artists, he explains, who have made an impact -- and will do so for years to come.

He counts Chris Cornell as one such artist. Varvatos selected the Audioslave frontman (formerly of Soundgarden) to be the face of the brand's spring 2006 ad campaign.

Created by New York agency Yard, with photography by music documentarian Danny Clinch, the campaign captures Cornell in such New York locations as Greenwich Village and Central Park.

In the photos, nothing appears out of place -- not the clothes and not Cornell. And that is the Varvatos way.

The goal is to capture artists wearing clothes they would normally wear. "It's not like we're styling them up in the traditional ad campaign way," says Donna Faircloth, Varvatos VP of marketing. "It's more like we're tagging along as they live their life." In other words, she says, "we're simply capturing a moment."

The Cornell campaign runs for six months and includes print, Internet and outdoor advertising. Though Cornell is identified in the campaign, his band affiliation is not. "You either know who it is or you don't," Faircloth says.

And who knows? Cornell's Varvatos association may help sell a few more copies of Audioslave's latestdisc, "Out of Exile," which debuted in June 2005 at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The CD has sold 984,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

I was thinking about this and the movie HYPE with Susan Silver. She said in it the only part of the whole "grunge" thing that made her sick, was grunge fashion on the runways and 5th Ave. She also said she would get calls for her clients to be in fashion ads and she would always have to say NO. The only thing I understand is wanting to make money - more so than ever when you have multiple children.

I bet you ever teenage girl who subscribes to Teen Bop has gotten this catalog -cut out the pictures and plastered them all over her wall.

in my eyes
indisposed
in disguise as no one knows
hides the face
lies the snake
in the sun in my disgrace
boiling heat
summer stench
'neath the black the sky looks dead
call my name through the cream
and ill hear you scream again
black hole sun
wont you come
and wash away the rain
black hole sun
wont you come
wont you come
wont you come
stuttering, cold and damp
steal the warm wind tired friend
times are gone for honest men
and sometimes far too long for snakes
in my shoes
walking sleep
and my youth i pray to keep
heaven send hell away
no one sings like you anymore
black hole sun
wont you come
and wash away the rain
black hole sun
wont you come
wont you come
black hole sun
wont you come
and wash away the rain
black hole sun
wont you come
wont you come (black hole sun black hole sun)
wont you come (black hole sun black hole sun)
wont you come (black hole sun black hole sun)
hang my head
drown my fear
til you all just disappear
black hole sun
wont you come
and wash away the rain
black hole sun
wont you come
wont you come

Yeah, I just always thought there was more going on up there than that. How many millions does one need before they feel comfortable enough to not compromise their artistic integrity? Even if they have THREE kids? (My grandparents raised 7 on one one-hundredth of his salary, but whatever...)

Like I said, if he's donating the cash, more power to him. Someone was going to get their pictures taken by that guy.

If he isn't, here's some cyber-poo for his face:

ffffbbbbbfpppppffffbbbbtttttt!

I know I sound like a cliche with the "selling out" baloney, but I really do think there is something to it. He's basically saying this:

"My image, all the things I'm about and stand for, is worth this many dollars. If you can give me this many dollars, I will give you my image, which is a representation of who I am and all my thoughts and feelings and everything. Buy me. I'm for sale."

It's one thing if you're just getting started in "the biz," you need to do some commercials or modeling or whatever to jumpstart your career so you can have access to projects that actually mean something. But he's waaaay past that stage. He could make a very comfortable living ONLY doing projects that he feels passionate about, but he chooses not to. That, like every other decision we make, says something about him. Something I didn't expect. Who knows, maybe he feels really passionate about these rich people clothes.

/rant.

BTW
Vicky, Chris's wife comes from a very, very rich Greek family. He doesn't not need money. Her brother owns a nightclub in Paris and they come from old money.
I think he must have thought the modelling thing was a good idea, but it just doesn't suit him. He may be a changed person and more evolved but, still you can do things that you later regret. This may be one of them.

Sure, people can and should change, but there is change for the positive, and change for the negative.

Becoming a murderer would be a change for the negative. I think modeling rich people clothes, when you formerly refused to use your image to sell someone else's products, is also a change for the negative, in my very humble opinion.

EXACTLY, why do people take all this change in Chris as being all good. Yeah so what if he's in a positive relationship, a positive band. He can still do things that makes no sense.
It doesn't matter, because there is always the CC can do no wrong attitude. That's always there.

I would think of this modelling thing a little differently if I thought it was an interest of his. Brad Wilk did a movie and no-one cared, but I think it was because he wanted to try it. I can't see Chris saying I want to try modelling, I want to be dressed up in someone's clothes. blah

Because I am not real savvy on my Cornell interview trivia, I totally don't think I ever read the topics about him not wanting to appear for other products. If he’s spoken against such things it surely is funky on Broadway there.

Ugly consumerism aside, as long as no puppies were hurt in the making of the photos it's all-ok by me.

Oh, the use of the term "People" in tg's comment kinda implies that most people are of a like mind on a subject. I really don't think that is the case at all. And I won't be signing up for the “Cornell can do no wrong club” anytime in my future, because he's human and can make funky choices just as well as the next person.

I am personally a bit more concerned over some of the choices he's made with his band rather than him opting to be a human clothes hanger.

Sometimes I make that mistake when I go off on a rant, that I usually think goes ignored. I'll take my spanking now.

Stilly, I know you are not in the Chris "could do no wrong" group. I was talking about it in general, that's always been around him since he's been famous.

Stilly, I didn't mean to imply that I had heard him specifically say he wouldn't use his image to sell products. He just never did before. I assume he was approached (I assume all celebrities of his stature and attractiveness are), but he said no.

So I'm guessing he used to have some sort of policy about such things that caused him to say no in the past. Maybe not.

23, I didn't know cause I am the first to admit I am one lazy fan. I have missed a lot of articles over the years, and those I have read I wouldn't remember.

So I thought I could have missed that.

It doesn’t seem to jive with the youthful Cornell but sometimes that happens.

-------------------------------------------------------

on a side note.... Von Dutch was a huge racist, who was said to repented in later days. But his good pals and some of my favorite artist like Robert Williams (who is single handedly responsible for the low brow movement) and artist Ed "Big Daddy" Roth (also from hot rod culture like Von Dutch) talked about it pretty extensively in an article.

Can't find the exact article, but here's a different one.

He did regret Rock The Vote later, he said it sided with the democratic party (his opinion). He just wanted people to VOTE for whoever they wanted.

Didn't he put his Docs on again last year, I actually thought that look would start up again with the kids.
