So I watched the Bob Dylan documentary "No Direction Home" on sunday and they were talking about how when people went to see Bob playing small coffehouses in NYC he had this presence about him that made you listen to him. He had charisma or something about him that said he was a "star". Anyway so he was turned down by this record company who had all the young folk singers, because they said he was a freak. I guess some artists don't make it because record company execs, don't have a clue.
I guess with the bands in Seattle they had already established a scene so that it was easier to be noticed and recognized, so the record companies came to them. They saw the $$$ and went after it.
I read the Jeff Buckley bio and it was really hard for an artist like him to get a company behind him and Columbia had a really hard time marketing him. They didn't know where he fit into the music biz. Which is kinda funny, because you either get Buckley or you don't. I think if he got more exposure than how they represented him as being an indie artist on a big label, more people would have liked him. They held him down in a way.

Write and sing commercial jingles, I guess?
Could you picture Chris selling and singing about Ovaltine or something? (stupid)(shakes head)
