Author: Officer Torch
Subject: Casting Thoughts

At times, if we heard an FG movie may come out, we might have presented our opinions as to cast. Many things have changed over time, but we can still render an opinion.

There are many talented and suitable actors, and choosing can be difficult. I always thought however that a most difficult one to select would be...well, who would play Emperor Ming. I had a few in mind, but now I think there's a talented veteran actor who would do quite well. A rental called Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time convinced me of this recently, especially near the latter quarter of the film, far down in the caves, when Nizam tries to attack Prince Dastan. Nizam is played by Ben Kingsley.
Any comments? Any ideas for others?

Sorry, forgot to include a pix for above post. Go to this at IMDb. Perhaps some tweaking in makeup, whatever, but the basics seem good.

I would never have thought of Ben Kingsley as Ming, but the picture at the link is pretty convincing. It would be quite a departure from playing Gandhi.

I can also see Anthony Hopkins as Ming, but maybe I am way off base with that one.

No Tim...you we not way off base...Hopkins was on my short list along with the versatile Christopher Walken. I did see Kingsley as the peacemaker in the great film Gandhi, and he acted very well. I enjoyed that film, and....well, I could not imagine him for bad guy opposite.... Ming, actually until I saw that Prince of Persia, Sands of Time flick apparently based upon a a video game, and also saw his appearance and facial expressions playing the part. Kingsley is versatile, and I'd imagine he could shift sides well. Otherwise, I'd say Walken. Perhaps Commander Rick has an opinion?
