Torch,

We'd like your appraisal of the outstanding series and recommendations on which ones are the best to add to our collection.

Allow me to reference my write up from Archives here June 6, 2009. The material there likely still applies. Current prices/availability may have changed though.

If a movie should come out based on original Sunday strip stories (comics) by Alex Raymond, material remaining may become pricey if not reprinted again.

I bought Checker Book Publishing Group Volumes 1 thru 7 from 2004 to 2006 over time. They were released 2 to 3 a year. It was less expensive that way, and perhaps time was also needed. The books are of good quality, sharp prints, colorful, nice paper. Volumes were close to $20 each; some a bit less.

Checker site still indicates them, but I can't comment on current availability. I also obtained some from Amazon. (Just saw some there now including pricey volumes from third parties.) When I was looking for bound volumes of A.R. comics, Checker was only outfit then making new reproduction books. Some other used versions were available from ebay, kind of pricey and so-so condition. I bought Checker set, over time, and have no regrets.

If you get the first 2 or 3 volumes, you'll get quite a bit of material...better though to get first 5 if you can. Ming is gone wherever by this time. If possible, get also Volumes 6 and 7 the last two. FG makes a second trip to Mongo for materials for a war effort on earth, but crashes. We meet another queen and another tyrant, not as brutal as Ming, but we see signs of the FG Sundays winding down, after he returns to earth.

Go shopping on line, perhaps you can get all 7 reasonably, maybe used though. Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.
