Maybe I am way out of line here, Queenie, but I look at it this way:

If you are a middle class, working, Dracut-loving tax payer, you will vote against the grinder pumps being responsibility of the private owners, and keep them under the sewer department. It's kinda like, if you want a garbage disposal, you buy and maintain it. But, if you can live with a compost on land you already own anyway, wouldn't you just rather have that? (town sewer)

Second, do you care if there are cushy offices for the town hall, which would come out of your tax dollars, or would you rather they live with their offices, and use your own tax dollars to fix up your own home? Don't you wish someone handed you 100 grand and said, "have a ball?"

I found that, the only way to find out what you should do is, not ask someone involved or formally-involved in town politics for a viewpoint, but to talk to your neighbors and to look at your own checking account. Personally, I would like one of the new 450k houses going up, but it ain't on the ballot!

And, I had no choice on town sewer. Why pay double for it?
