Sue Ellen,

That building should mean a lot more than just a lot (which is what I see in its place in not too long from now). If the guvermint could be trusted, I know they could find the means to procure the place. They're great at finding the means to stuff their wallets and pocketbooks, bless'em. The place would be perfect for a museum of the Hudson Valley with a Hudson Valley Tourism "Centre" including surrounding counties. Newburgh's Historical Society would be better housed there and all those records they're allowing to rot away and are losing by moving them from here to Hell would be safe in the vault. There's enough space to give classes in history, create some local docents. It's great gallery space for local artists who might like to get involved with our local scenery and what's left of local architecture. Not to mention Newburgh's own Andrew Jackson of Downing and his architecture. If it could house the Hudson Valley Historic and Tourism, the counties of Orange, Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam and Greene could be involved. Newburgh's just about the center of the Centre. What better location? But could we trust the local yokals to keep it above board? Even with 5-county oversight? If all else fails maybe O'Bammer can print up the 3mil while he's printing all that other money and toss it into the next grant our Council will be grubbing for.

If we could trust anybody in town, the Ewings could procure it. But really, Newburgh's not a safe investment these days. The best cash cows are here on the ranch and not in that barn they call City Hall. I wouldn't give a new penny for most of them heffers over there. They're all moo and nothin' more.

Good luck at the C.A.C. Sue Ellen.

Garrison Arthur
