Subject: GFD Question #9 - The curse of the vampire's bite....
In reply to: Comicality 's message, ""GFD" Questions On Thursdays...." on Sat August 09, 2008 04:31:05

I suppose I'll just push this question to the top of the list, because I CANNOT, for the life of me, find my notebook with the other questions before this one! Arrrgh! (Yes, it is time for Comsie to clean his house. ::Nods::)

So...as far as the "Gone From Daylight" method of turning another person into one of the 'Iluminarae', this is how it goes...

1- In order for anyone to crossover into darkness, there must be some kind of 'emotional' attachment made between sire and childe. While it is rare that this conection is one of true love (as it is with Justin and Taryn), other connections can also create the same effect. Sympathy, anger, desperation...these things can make a transformation successful. As long as there is a certain 'willingness' provided by the person being turned. Without it, the crossover could go horribly wrong...or perhaps not happen at all. Which is why most, if not all, vampire are literally 'seduced' into it. (With the exception of 'Cylance' in the story "Nightfall", where his desire for revenge is what allowed him to maintain his need to survive his crossover.)

2- When turning someone into a vampire, a chemical is released through the fangs as a method to cross someone over into darkness. Again, this comes from an emoional attachment. The chemical itself is almost like a state of arousal by the vampire doing the biting. (Like leaking 'precum' before a sexual encounter) This idea came from someone I was talking to years ago through emails about it, and I really liked the idea that you couldn't just bite 'anybody' and mke them a vampire. The selection process had to be a bit more advanced and unique than that.

3- When the attachment is TOO strong, or not strong enough...crossover mishaps can occur. If there is too much of a transfer of the toxin needed to make a vampire, then what you get is a 'Nosferatu'. A vampire that is horribly disfigured and maintains a bloodlust that can not be controlled (As in the story starter, "The Awakening", or the character, 'Freak', in the story, "Lost In Shadow"). Hoever, if the transfer is not strong enough...then what you get is a mindless zombie. A person that is more dead than alive, wandering the Earth looking for blood, but not capable of any means of civilized thought or mental processes outside of feeding on the living. So a 'balance' is definitely necessary between sire and host before a crossover can be made.

4- When crossovers are made, the host is often frozen in the state that it was in when it was turned. However, there are many ocassions when the person being turned goes through an extensive 'healing' process to repair what ails the body during its transformation. (Like Dion's dog, 'Napolean', in the lot) This is an unexplained phenomena, but not as rare as most vampires would think. And it has been an ancient practice to 'save' humans by crossing them over into darkness since the dark plagues of Europe. However, the short period after a vampire's crossover can be delicate times indeed. Until a vampire's new body becomes stable, it is still vulnerable to injuries that may, in fact, become permanent. (As with Doc's legs in the lot, who was hurt shortly after his crossover took place.)

So far, that's all I've got in my notes. But I hope these details will help answer your question dude. :)
