My thoughts on the last episode. What are yours?
Here's a copy of what I posted on LJ yesterday. I haven't rewatched the episode yet.
"One of Six" was better than the premiere.
There are many moments and lines that I loved like Cavil's "they are tools, not pets" and "I'm machine enough to admit that I was wrong!". Although there were bits of dialogues in the episode that I couldn't understand. Please articulate!
What's Cavil's number by the way? One? Now we know that Leoben is a Two. Mmm Leoben...I hope we'll see more of him.
Bill Adama is drinking more than Saul Tigh used to.
Tory still has hair issue, yet not as serious as Laura's. Sorry dark humour here.
The hybrid still "vomits metaphysics" and says that "transformation is the goal" for they won't turn against their own. Perhaps the hybrid is clueless.
Boomer still betrays the people she's supposed to belong to, in this case the Eights. She turned against her own!
Kara still annoys me. I know there are Katee fans out there but I do think she keeps overplaying.
I liked how fragile and afraid Laura Roslin looked in the opening scene. But don't shoot anyone when you're without your glasses, silly woman! She only managed to damage the frame showing a picture of Bill and her...:- ) I like those little details (like Saul shooting Bill in the eye in the previous eppy). Bill nailed it when he said that she was afraid to die and that her death "might be as meaningless as anyone's else"! Cruel but true.
Poor Laura. Kara Thrace is a brat.
And I loved the Doctor Baltar and Mr Gaius scene. It so makes sense that now he keeps seeing himself. He used to be considered a genius. Like a rock star he picked women he wanted to shag until he became obsessed with Caprica – that obsession being the result of a mix of lust and guilt since she used him to annihilate mankind– so she was in his head for a while. Now he's been worshipping by people who see him as a prophet. What a boost for Gaius' ego ! At the same time he's in introspection mode, he's been found not guilty yet in the previous he thinks he deserves death for what he did.
No wonder he's obsessed with, haunted by himself now.
The shot of Gaius/Tory sex was very kamasutra-like.Tory shows her foot but doesn't want to flash her boobs. Can we say that Gaius is definitely really intimate with the Cylons?
I was right! Lee is going to work for Zarek !!!!! Tom Zarek must be the Fifth.
I have never been happy about the romantic Kara/Lee 'ship but I didn't dislike the Lee/Kara kiss and I found the Lee/Dee scene quite touching too. Lee has depth at last! And Jamie Bamber was good in the Farewell scene. It was nice to see Apollo shaking hand with Athena and I liked the Lee/Karl hug. But who wouldn't want to be hugged by Helo?
I'm still a bit confused in regard to Helo's rank and function. He seems to be CAG now...and Tigh seems to be XO again yet it isn't that clear. I liked the fact that Bill trusted Helo when it comes to Kara.
Helo is damn sexy when he enters a room, carrying a box.
Six and her Centurions reminded me of the opening scene of the miniseries. A new war has begun, a civil war. "We're finish voting"...Mmmm the Cylon utopia is biting the dust. There are indeed turning into human beings.
But the Six are playing with fire. Beware of sentient Centurions! I wonder if Caprica is aware of what's going on...

Re: My thoughts on the last episode. What are yours? -- Esmerelda, 18:13:07 04/13/08 Sun [1]
I think I enjoyed it more than the premier too.
I found the stuff on the cyclon basestar far more interesting than I did last year. I put that down to it being less wishy washy mysticism and more politically driven. I especially enjoyed Cavil and I hope this isn't the last we see of him as I love the fact he's clearly a non believer.
I should probably note here I don't have any objections to the characters having religous beliefs, and I find the beliefs in themselves interesting, I just don't like the idea of the show being set in a universe where all of this stuff is demonstratably real. As in real life, I think it should be a question of faith, and nothing more.
Chip Gaius? Hysterical.
There was a definite sense of loss through out this episode for me both literal in the sense of Lee's leaving and foreshadowing the inevitable death of Laura.
I don't consider myself a Lee/Kara shipper, but I usually enjoy their scenes sans quad of doom and this ep was no exception. I fear a small part of me *is* a Lee/Kara shipper sometimes.
I loved the Adama and Roslin scene, the nastiness of it, even though it made me sad, cause Mom and Dad are fighting. :( It seemed very real though, that people in this high stress situation would snipe at each other like that.
My absolute favorite bit though? When Helo grabbed Lee's hand to take him over to the shots and then the hug. Slash! Thank you Ron!
I found the Gaius/Tory sex icky, but I think we were meant too, so have no actual objections to it.
All in all a much stronger episode than I would have expected from the infamous Mr Angeli.

Agreed.
I like how Helo grabbed Lee's hand too...but in my mind everybody must fancy Helo! ;- )

What I want to know -- rmartin, 00:27:58 04/14/08 Mon [1]
How did you get that little cartoon bubble in your subject line?
Other than that, I think they need to step it up a bit if they are going wrap it all up in....how many eps are left?

I got it from the little box you have between "Choose Message Icon" and "View Emoticons", above the "clear" button.
I believe there are 12 episodes left before the Summer hiatus, the rest of the season will be aired in September.

Lee was wearing an incredibly gay sweater, for one... -- anyasbuttmonkey, 00:44:24 04/14/08 Mon [1]
I definitely enjoyed Six Of One more than last week's, but I too am not a huge fan of the way Katee Sackhoff is playing the Kara storyline... I like her as an actress, but if I had to watch one more scene of her in Anguish Mode I might have killed her myself. So thankfully we're packing her off with a skeleton crew (is it just me, or did it sound like Helo's going with her? Guess we'll find out next week) so she can find Earth her way.
I had pains watching the Bill/Laura scene of doom. I hope they can patch things up next week!
Tory rockin' out with Baltar was incredibly uncomfortable, but like Esmerelda said I think we're supposed to think that. I had to laugh, though, when she said that crying is just something she does during sex. If someone said that to me I'd be more than a little freaked! Gotta love Tigh's "You don't have to get on your back for him, but..." - the "it would really help" is implied, obviously ;)
Apollo's farewell was surprisingly moving, I've never been a fan of the character so the fact that there were sniffles? Is a big deal! Loved loved *loved* Helo and Athena during this, and Dee - class act to the end, that one! It was nice to see all the other pilots, too - Racetrack, Hotdog, Seelix (did we ever clear up what her callsign is?), Narcho... I hope we do get some more of them in these final episodes.
And oh boy, the Cylon storyline... Pure genius. I loved the basestar stuff last season (good to see them using the same music cues, nice touch!), so I was excited just seeing a basestar again. But the fact that this one episode has probably blown the series wide open? Brilliant. I assume that all the Cavils, Simons and Dorals are boxed up then? Hopefully we'll get to see a Cavil again, I still have a nagging feeling that his model (Number One, funnily enough) know more than they let on... And for the nerd in me, it was great to get confirmation on Cavil, Simon and Leoben's numbers (which leaves us with 7, and 9 through 12 for the Final Five). I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the four we know are 9 through 12, and the magical final cylon is number 7 (because it's the magic number). What this means in regards to anything is beyond me :)
Oh, and Boomer... Poor, torn Boomer. I'm sure turning against her model will turn out alright for her, I mean, she's had such an easy go of it up until now, right?
Right?

Agree with that -- Esmerelda, 09:26:28 04/14/08 Mon [1]
Not the sweater thing, I just thought wardrobe had messed up and given him a jumper meant for Helo. I can just see them now "Lee? Is that the tiny little guy or the really big guy? Uh, we'll go with the big guy, I'm sure it'll be fine"
I agree the final cylon is 7, if I had a farm, I'd bet it on it. Which means I must now draw you to the fact said cylon is between 6 and 8. Lucky sod.

Heh. Even I'm jealous of that one... -- anyasbuttmonkey, 11:59:30 04/14/08 Mon [1]
I honestly do think that, despite my convoluted (sp?) theories that the final cylon is either Socrata, Ellen or Caroline, it's going to turn out to be a man. Kara's dad currently tops my list, because who the hell would see that coming, and Ron Moore said that there's "no way you can guess who the final cylon is without knowing where this season is going", storyline-wise.
I'm also intrigued by Kara's line about Earth, how she could swear she's been there before. Maybe she has, because she's a Seraph who was once a member of the thirteenth tribe before dying and elevating to heaven, but who got kicked out because of her meddling in human affairs, and sent back to being human.

Well, you know what I think re the final cylon -- Esmerelda, 15:24:00 04/14/08 Mon [1]
Dramatically, after the reveal of Tigh and Cheif, they have to up the ante. It has to be one of the five reg cast members who aren't already cylons and you know which one I think it is. :)
Although I'm half expecting the final cylon to be a bit of a damp squib (such as Kara's Dad, who we've never seen, and therefore don't care about)as I'm not convinced they didn't pick Tigh and Cheif for the shock factor and didn't think about the consequences of that in regards to revealing the final cylon.

Did you ever read that interview with Jane Espenson just after she started on the show? -- anyasbuttmonkey, 16:00:58 04/14/08 Mon [1]
She said that she was amazed, coming from the cult shows she's worked on in the past, that they actually had a plan for the show from start to finish, and that they had a whiteboard in the writer's room with the relevant details on it. I agree with you in that I think they pulled the final four out of their asses (mainly because they wouldn't have known from the start that Tory's a Cylon because she was only created when Paul Campbell got written out), but I think that the major story points they've had planned since the get go, including Kara (although I think that came during season 2, after they realised they had a painting on her apartment wall that looked like it could be something, retroactive foreshadowing is genius sometimes).
My feeling is that I believe Ron when he says the final Cylon is *not* one of the 5 human regulars, purely because - like you say - the shock of Chief and Tigh was huge. I think the reveal of the final Cylon has to be someone that has a huge *emotional* impact on several characters, hence why I'm leaning towards the Angst Twins parents (aside from Bill). What better kicker than having Lee or Kara be the real first Cybrid? And that could go some way to explaining her return from the dead (and maybe even a return for Zac!)

I'm deeply sceptical about -- Esmerelda, 16:12:02 04/14/08 Mon [1]
Writers saying 'There's a plan! Really!', at most I think there may be a vague They Reach Earth (or don't) and character x, y and Z dies, plan but even that'll be subject to change depending on circumstances.
I think that revealling Tigh and Cheif as cylons so early was a mistake on the writers part to be honest, because (and of course, other's milliege varies)unless the final cylon is one of the human 5, the reveal for me is going to be an anti-climax.
I think if it's a parent, it's more likly to be Caroline Adama as that effects Adama, Lee and even Roslin. Kara's parent only effects her, and is a bit redundant as she already has a cylon husband.
To be honest, I'm actually totally expecting the final cylon to be something stupid and to be rolling my eyes. That way I can only be pleasantly surprised if it's not as lame as Tiny Tim.

A lot of people I've noticed on the interwebs have been espousing Gaeta... -- anyasbuttmonkey, 16:16:16 04/14/08 Mon [1]
Mainly because of the "something" Baltar knows about him that Gaeta's willing to kill him to stop from getting out, and the fact that he's been instrumental in solving many of the clues on the roadmap to Earth. Personally, while it makes sense in a "that all fits" way, it makes for zero drama, because who really cares all that much about Gaeta?

Exactly -- Esmerelda, 16:21:21 04/14/08 Mon [1]
The same goes for Dee, even though it technically fufills 'Adama is a cylon.
You know, I'm quite decided the final cylon should be Lee and Adama's known all along. I don't doubt though I'll be bitterly disappointed when it's actually Seelix. :P

Have you seen the casting stuff for the Caprica spinoff characters? -- anyasbuttmonkey, 16:35:18 04/14/08 Mon [1]
It sounds like we weren't far off with our spec that weekend that Ron Moore's planning a five-series, twenty-year storyline that will all make sense retroactively ;)
I'm a little concerned that they're including a human-form Cylon (unless they're putting a girl's voice on a Centurion!), but I'll wait to see exactly how it all comes about. On the flipside, we may have an explanation for the Cylon's monotheistic religion...

I was a bit 'oh jeez' about what I did read, which is one of the reasons I'm so nervous about this season.

Gaeta didn't seem to hear the song at the end of the season 3...Neither did Dualla.
I tell you the final Cylon was in the fleet but not on the Galactica so his sudden moment of self-awareness got hidden to our eyes. It is TOM ZAREK !

Re: Lee was wearing an incredibly gay sweater, for one... -- Chani, 19:18:48 04/14/08 Mon [1]
The sweater was Soooooooo gay indeed.
(is it just me, or did it sound like Helo's going with her?
I was confused about it too... but there's no way that Helo would leave Sharon and Hera to go with Starbuck now!
I think that the scene just implied that Adama trusted Helo more than anyone else about the issue. Helo is a moral figure and his homme de confiance. He went against Roslin' will which is something Helo is familiar with...
I liked the fact that Leoben stood with Six and Eight...all the pretty ones together!
Cavil is a libidinous old Cylon...

I'm sure Helo said "we're going..." in reference to Kara's journey... -- anyasbuttmonkey, 23:32:00 04/14/08 Mon [1]
And who's to say Sharon and Hera wouldn't go with him? I would assume Adama would want someone like Helo on that freighter - cool-headed, logical and able to connect with Kara on deeper emotional level than the other viper jocks (the ones she hasn't frakked, anyway). I guess we'll find out this weekend :)
I'm not surprised at all that the Leobens, Sharons and Sixes ended up on the same page, the Eight model is more empathetic than the others (from what we've seen), and both the Sixes and the Twos (I love that we have their numbers now!) are quite metaphysical in their viewpoints. Hopefully this isn't the end of the Cavils, though, at least one needs to survive!

Argggg I missed that bit ! -- Chani, 10:11:06 04/15/08 Tue [1]
Sometimes I really could use subtitles...Still not convinced though.
I love that we have their numbers too! :- )
BTW it's funny that on the basestar the numbers Four and Five are with Cavil who's a One, considering that in the human fleet there are the fival Five, Four that we know and One that will be revealed.
It seems to me that, in spite of their differences, the Sharons, the Sixes and the Leobens are the most human ones (the Fours and the Fives seem more machine-like). They all have deeper connections with human beings. Sharon to the whole fleet through Boomer's experience, Six to Baltar, Leoben to Kara.
As I said on LJ, Cavil reminds me of the old-school Baltar and his Cylon buddy, Mephistopheles. He's a mix of both.
