Ms Jerome,

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion - however rudely you decide to express it - but as a relative newcomer to BLT, I would like to give an alternative opinion and tackle a few of your observations in particular in the process.

I joined BLT two years ago, as a newcomer to the area, and have since been involved in three of their productions. At no point have I ever felt the group to be insular or cliquey. Sure, some people are more outgoing than others and there may be a few egos here and there (though I haven't met them yet) but there but what amateur dramatic group doesn't have those?

In every production I've been involved with, I've always been made to feel a part of the team, be it onstage or backstage. I'm a fairly shy person by nature (despite my penchant for getting up on stage to act) so I don't tend to go to many of the varied social events that take place at BLT. I know, though, that if I did I would be made to feel welcome because I have been whenever I've stayed behind for drink in the bar after rehearsals. There's always someone there who is happy to have a chat.

To question whether members visit the theatre or see professional productions is at best rude and at worst ignorant. Most of the people I've met via BLT are also involved with at least one or more other local amateur group and they've all shared a love of the theatre - why else would they dedicate so much time to it if they didn't?

I'm puzzled by your motivation in posting what you have, and wonder why you continue to attend productions if they apparently offend you so much. I'd hate for anyone who is considering joining BLT to read your post and believe it all to be true. That's why I wanted to just share my own, positive experiences of BLT.
