Subject: Miss Texas USA; an objective competition.....

Pessimistic Competitor

Being as though this was my first state pageant, my comments on the Miss Texas pageant are unbiased, and come from a contestant who is not "ingrained" in the pageant world at all.

With that being said, I am glad this thread and website exists because it confirms my suspicions that the Miss Texas USA pageant is a little bit short of a scam. Below are the things that I noticed from the first day of competition.

1. The interview portion is a joke. There were no substantial questions asked that would highlight a contestants personality, nor address their pageant platform. They were shallow questions like "what is your favorite color" and "tell me about your hobbies"
What EXACTLY is point of the interview portion?

2. Too many of the contestants knew each other for whatever reason, which seemed suspicious. These "groups of friends"
were VERY sure they would make it to the top spots. Which they did. Coincidence? I think not.
3. The "dance teacher" or "coordinator" gave specific instructions to all contestants to not "turn" or "do the most" during our walks down the runway. WHY, during the final competition did EACH of the girls have a very "practiced" routine that included every move the director told us NOT to do? Coincidence? I think not.
4. By the comments on this thread, it has been confirmed that the "winner" is not a surprise. It happens year after year. But I digress..
5. During the final show, a contestant came to me and said, "My pageant coordinator's daughter won Miss Teen Texas a while back and she confided in me that they pre-determine the top 15. She said that I shouldn't get my hopes up, but that I should focus on having fun." Now this could be speculation, but based off the evidence its not hard to believe.

In short...This pageant seems rigged. At the least, it is not an objective competition...
Unless you are a favorite, or are related to someone on "the inside," is there any point to run for Miss Texas?
*Yes, so that the Crystal group can make money off of all of the optimistic "newcomers" and the yearly returners hoping to brown nose enough to get a spot in the top.

Miss Texas will never win Miss USA unless they ACTUALLY create guidelines for this competition.

I hope in the future, the public begins to demand the scores from the competition so we have proof this is NOT rigged.

If pageantry was the defining factor in my life then I might actually waste my time suing the Crystal Group to recoup my money....I might.

Congrats Logan, it's not your fault that you benefited from an unjust system. Good luck at Miss USA!

Some of your statements are true, some are way off base. Yes the girls know each other, because they have competed year after year. Teen and Miss. Which is why there is a “group” Each has spent thousands and thousands of dollars in interview and walking coaches. Their walking coach would probably tell them what to do on the stage, regardless of what Bridget says. If all girls did what she wanted, you would look like robots. So why don’t you find your Sasha Fierce and do what you want? As far as the Texas judges, I have always had an issue with them. But, there is never a pre-determined top 15. Some in the top were a SHOCK to me and I have been watching Texas for years. And of course there are those who will always make it because they PRACTICE and PREPAIR. BUT..Crystal group needs to start recruiting NOW for judges next year. I think the problem is, they always do the pageants on Labor day and Thanksgiving. Who wants to give up their holiday to sit in a ball room? Other systems will ask the tough questions, but don’t overlook the fact that most of these girls are well educated. Texas has always been accused of being “rigged” and this year is no exception. We knew they were going to pick someone who has been loyal because of the scandal ( even though she “was” associated with them). But Logan did deserve to win, even though I personally would have liked someone else.
My suggestion to you, if you try again is get a coach. This pageant is no joke and these ladies come to win. Do your homework. There will always be “mean girls” but there were over 90 girls and you should not let a handful of bad apples ruin your time. Crystal group is not a scam, and has been around for over 25 years. I think they need to review their judges and questions, but they run a tight ship. Sorry you had a horrible experience. When I ran, I DID have fun and met girls that are be my friends forever.

[> Subject: I've said this so many times on here, it's ridiculous. They winners are not predetermined. I KNOW this, I was a judge. We were not allowed to discuss girls, we were walked to the restroom and escorted at all times. Scores were done by us privately at the judges table and handed immediately to an accountant in front of everyone. The winners are who we picked-- nothing else.

Enough with the conspiracy theories! Your judges pick the winners.

[> Subject: Not surprised at all. I don't mind if they already have pre-determined the top contestants or even the winner as long as they crown someone worth it. Lately, they've crowned (not so attractive) winners. Some were to pay back Laredo for hosting the pageant for so many years. Others, just were chosen from the little group that are friends with directors, owners, etc. Texas has always been a "you have to pay your dues" state, so it;s about making money for the organization, I don't know our reigning Miss Texas; she seems very nice, BUT as far as beauty is concerned. . . let's just say all you have to do is look at the top 5 picture or candids to know there were other girls that are Miss USA and Universe ready.

So clearly the Laredo winners weren’t as bad as you make it seem.

It's not pre-determined but no one can tell you that because you or your kid lost.

[> Subject: Coming from a contestant that has listened to other girls interviews before my turn, I have noticed that they ask the “contenders”- the ones that appear very put together in interview- harder questions. They know that the girls who look like they’re Miss USA ready in interview are the ones that they need to focus on onstage. Thus giving them reason to go more in depth and asking harder questions for them. The girls that don’t look like they can win most likely don’t get the harder questions because they seem new to the competition and the judges either do not want to make them nervous in interview or simply do not want to waste their questions/time on girls that they don’t believe can win. As harsh as that sounds...
