Being as though this was my first state pageant, my comments on the Miss Texas pageant are unbiased, and come from a contestant who is not "ingrained" in the pageant world at all.
With that being said, I am glad this thread and website exists because it confirms my suspicions that the Miss Texas USA pageant is a little bit short of a scam. Below are the things that I noticed from the first day of competition.
1. The interview portion is a joke. There were no substantial questions asked that would highlight a contestants personality, nor address their pageant platform. They were shallow questions like "what is your favorite color" and "tell me about your hobbies"
What EXACTLY is point of the interview portion?
2. Too many of the contestants knew each other for whatever reason, which seemed suspicious. These "groups of friends"
were VERY sure they would make it to the top spots. Which they did. Coincidence? I think not.
3. The "dance teacher" or "coordinator" gave specific instructions to all contestants to not "turn" or "do the most" during our walks down the runway. WHY, during the final competition did EACH of the girls have a very "practiced" routine that included every move the director told us NOT to do? Coincidence? I think not.
4. By the comments on this thread, it has been confirmed that the "winner" is not a surprise. It happens year after year. But I digress..
5. During the final show, a contestant came to me and said, "My pageant coordinator's daughter won Miss Teen Texas a while back and she confided in me that they pre-determine the top 15. She said that I shouldn't get my hopes up, but that I should focus on having fun." Now this could be speculation, but based off the evidence its not hard to believe.
In short...This pageant seems rigged. At the least, it is not an objective competition...
Unless you are a favorite, or are related to someone on "the inside," is there any point to run for Miss Texas?
*Yes, so that the Crystal group can make money off of all of the optimistic "newcomers" and the yearly returners hoping to brown nose enough to get a spot in the top.
Miss Texas will never win Miss USA unless they ACTUALLY create guidelines for this competition.
I hope in the future, the public begins to demand the scores from the competition so we have proof this is NOT rigged.
If pageantry was the defining factor in my life then I might actually waste my time suing the Crystal Group to recoup my money....I might.
Congrats Logan, it's not your fault that you benefited from an unjust system. Good luck at Miss USA!
