I think people are making a lot of assumptions and being really over dramatic. I am sure platforms still work but the point is a lot of ladies in the USA do not have any kind of platform and the only community service they do is the appearances the systems makes them attend. I see nothing wrong with having a greater purpose outside of pageantry. You are a representing the country or your state when you win one of these titles.
