Subject: Exit Unicorns

I will be covering two chapters on Sunday through Tuesday, then one a day for the rest of my week. The later chapters are the longer ones, so hopefully this schedule will work for all and sundry.

I want to start by thanking Cindy for writing such wonderful books that brought us all together, Michelle (M&M) for encouraging her to "go public" on LOL with the fact that celtgirl is Cindy Brandner, author of Exit Unicorns and Peggy for the idea to create a Pub of our own on the internet.

And special thanks to all of those who will be leading the discussions here, to those who pop by to offer up their thoughts, pose their questions and enjoy the magic of Jamie, Casey, Pat & Pamela.

Chapter One: The Pixellated Mick
A grand home over-looking Belfast Lough. Cindy tells me you can hear, but not actually see the Lough from Kirkpatrick's Folly.

Wikitionary defines pixellated as “behaving in an eccentric manner, whimsical, drunk." I think we can safely apply all of those definitions to Jamie when we first meet him. As the chapter progress, we are given clues about who this man might be: signs of wealth and prominence, only one female friend who hadn’t become something other and then moved on, a fierce intelligence, loyalty, no fear of authority, ambivalent to religion and literally possessed of animal magnetism. The drunkenness is his response to his father’s suicide.

We also met John, Jessica (the female friend who’s never been a lover) and Yevgena, one of the most memorable characters I’ve ever come across in the thousands of books I’ve read.

Do you think Yevgena is right when she tells John and Jessica that Jamie needs someone to look after that night and for the next little while to avoid being “devoured by the pain.” This is a stark contrast to Jamie’s desire to be left alone to go out on the water – the place where he has found solace all his life.

Chapter Two: The Gypsy Girl

Irish Travellers

We meet Pamela, courtesy of Yevgena. She performs an exotic and sensual dance for Jamie and invites him to join her, which he does.

Why would Yevgena encourage Jessica to be with Jamie and then offer up Pamela?

Once they were alone, the encounter between Pamela and Jamie felt more like a meeting of minds with easy banter between friends rather than a heated sexual encounter. Agree or disagree? Any thoughts of comments?

Why do you think Yevgena, Maggie and Liz (Jamie’s personal secretary) conspired to get Jamie to hire Pamela AND give her a place to live?

Did you suspect there was more to Pamela than met the eye at this point?
