Subject: I do view and think about the history and current situation in Ireland very differently thanks to Cindy's educational history lesson - it was certainly a far better, more comprehensive and REAL telling of historical events than I ever received in public or high school. Growing up, I picked up little tidbits about the IRA and Ireland but nothing more than a one-sided account of things which meant that the Irish were to blame and the IRA were just bombers. No one explained the IRA, its roots, its purpose let alone what was at the heart of the conflict. Whenever I asked I got the answer "it's just about religion". For me, I am grateful for the protrayal from Cindy. Like Elaine, I try to understand both sides of the coin now.

  • Perhaps the Riordans stayed because it's in their blood. If they didn't fight, then who would? I suppose if everyone left, there would be no Ireland. Also, it was their home, language, religion, land etc., and having those of my own now makes me understand how terribly fierce I would be if push came to shove and someone or some thing tried to steal it all away from me. They seem to be a family of fighters for a good cause and not ones to easily give up what they believe. (NT) -- Tracy, 17:42:01 06/29/09 Mon
