• 71.1) It's awfully difficult for me to be understanding when I see thousands of murdered innocents. Then I'm reminded that the people we regard as heroes and the fathers of our country here in the US were considered terrorists in their time, too. I guess it all depends upon which side of the lens you're looking from. If I were Catholic in NI during The Troubles, trust me, I'd have been active in some way, too. Might not have pulled a trigger, but I would have had a hand in some aspect of the movement. That would make me just as guilty as the guy who kills, not a comfortable feeling at all. • I have to say, all the bombing and retaliation for killing just keeps adding to the death toll. I don't understand that kind of thinking. I agreed with Pamelas take on it. It is the innocent who get killed when those type of actions take place. What purpose does it serve? None.       • The RUC would not have hired Catholics and many of its members belonged to Loyalist paramilitary groups. They were widely considered by most NI Catholics to be in the pocket of the goverenment and certainly most were not interested in justice when it came to Catholics. • 1. It does. I still don't necessarily agree with their methods but I can see how they'd be driven to them. What do you do when your family and friends have been deported, kicked off their land and out of their homes, denyed education and jobs, imprisoned unjustly, hauled off and murdered in the middle of the night for no reason other than their faith, colour, race etc. and all peaceful protests or calls for change are either ignored or met with violence? Doesn't leave you too many routes to go. Whether one is a terrorist, rebel, freedom fighter or soldier all depends on which side you're on. The Protestants had organizations just as brutal, just as indiscriminate in their actions and just as unlawful as the IRA, only the British turned a blind eye to them (and probably supported them in secret) because they were on their side. -- Carla, 13:19:45 10/19/07 Fri

• 2. I think there is a big difference between seeing someone you love blown to bits, maimed, etc. than seeing a stranger. For doctors, nurses, cops, paramedics etc. their training takes over and they focus on the task at hand, rather than on the fact that it's a person beneath their hands. It's a limb to be reattached, or a gaping wound to be closed, not a child, mother, father etc. with a horrible injury. It's the only way to do what they do and not go mad. And many people in these types of professions do suffer from burn-out, addiction, mental illness (PTSD and depression) and higher rates of divorce. Could I do it? I honestly don't know. • 1. I suppose in a way it does, yes. I don't agree with some of their means but I can sympathize with the feelings they may have or understand a tiny bit of their experiences.The names to which we assign people though - depends on what you believe and on which side you are I guess. 2 I wouldnt want to be a laywer because of the paperwork and speech writing and I couldn't be a doctor because I can't stand smells especially vomit and other gross things.
