Subject: 72.2) In Boston, Casey was out of his element. In Ireland, Pamela is perhaps not entirely out of her element, but she's not well-versed. I think she does go where angels should fear to tread, but there's that stubborn willfulness she's famous for. If Bloody Friday hadn't happened, and if other troubles weren't visiting them so close to home (Pat), I don't think Casey would have reacted so strongly. But in truth, I do think he knows what the Irish people are capable of on their home turf far better than Pamela does at this stage.

  • 72.3) No choice for me - I'd keep my mouth shut. Not only to protect Casey, though. I'm afraid that letting the truth escape my lips would be enough to do me in, that by hearing myself speak it I would indict myself far worse than anybody else's judgment. Even though it seemed (to Pamela) to be the right thing at the right time, if she truly felt her relationship with Love Hagerty was justifiable, she would not be defensive or feel remorse. The revulsion and regret she's felt is building toward a crescendo now. (NT) -- Elaine (), 18:56:16 10/21/07 Sun
  • that's a good point Elaine- if she felt it was truly justified, why so much guilt? It seems perhaps that thier marriage was already on such fragile grounds that it couldn't handle anymore shake ups. (NT) -- susiej, 07:31:56 10/22/07 Mon
