• 65.1) This is a tough one. Pamela knows just how much Casey adored his father. And she knows that he also doubts the death was accidental. She'd want to do anything in her power to help him learn the truth. But Pamela can be so reckless and far too willing to take chances. I sometimes wish she would just talk about these things with Casey first before striking out on her own the way she does. She's willful as hell - there's little can be done to stop her when she makes up her mind. (65.2) Absolutely, I think fear heightens our awareness of our surroundings. Adrenalin makes our minds work faster. It all connects with the fight or flight instinct I think. Everything around us is in sharper focus. (65.3) Yes, I'd rather die than bury another child.   • 65.1) I didn't see her as selfish, but yea a little reckless. As with Jamie, I find I'm not too suprised anymore at things she gets involved in. She's very independent, took care of herself alone for years before Casey..it's hard to shake that mentality of 'I can do it myself' and ask for help. She's come to know and care about Brian through Casey & Pat and she's not the type of person (I don't think) to be handed a wee bit of info on something this important and not follow through.     • Yes, but don't you think there's a difference when you are all on your own and when you have family? She could do what the hell she wanted before, but now that would affect Casey- for the rest of his life. That's what makes her mad at him but then she goes and does it herself and it is his dad. I think she should discuss it with him. Casey had put himself in danger to help his people but I'm not sure beyond curiosity and her need to know the truth, what Pamela think is going to happen with this knowledge?       • Oh yes, I think there is a huge difference between only having to worry about yourself vs a family. But I don’t think the stubborn independence and willfulness go away just like that when you become more than one. Does she not think, I mean truly think things through sometimes, probably, and it’s a credit to the author for creating a character we all have such strong emotions and opinions about yea?! I don’t think she was looking for justice in Brian’s murder, maybe peace of mind for Casey & Pat knowing the truth. If she had talked to him about it, he probably would have tied her down..literally hahaha! I rebel big time at being told I can or can’t do something, it’s taken 20+ years for my DH to really understand that about me and we’ve learned to work with it and compromise.         • The one thing that continues to stand out as the thing that motivates Pamela's actions (and allows me to accept her risk-taking here) is the great love and admiration Casey and Pat have for their late father. What a wonderful man Brian was; I hope we learn more about him in time to come (winkin' and nudgin' to cg here). When it comes to rival factions and murder in Northern Ireland in the late 1960's and thereafter, even though I'm probably just as headstrong as Pamela, I'd tread more carefully than she did here, no matter how much I'd want to know the truth. It wouldn't help my husband or brother-in-law much if they discovered me laying dead somewhere. I think Pamela was very, very lucky given the history. (NT) -- Elaine, 10:50:55 10/15/07 Mon

• (65.4) Your guess is as good as mine. I'd supposed the meetings were an attempt to find common ground. The IRA was not terribly organized at that time, but maybe it showed signs of gaining momentum and the government was getting a little twitchy. • 65.4) I'm not very good at solving mysteries or figuring out clues, but that's what I thought Jane, that the meetings were similar to what Jamie is involved in now. Both sides trying to work out some common ground without the violence. 65.5) I thought it might be Robin and yea I thought it was a setup but they weren't expecting her to be there. • 65.2) Yes, I think terror heightens our awareness. The closest I can come to knowing about this is a car accident I was in when Jess was 5. Everything seems to happen in slo mo but thankfully your mind also works to shield you from some of the pain as it's happening. After the fact you hurt in places you didn't even realize were injured but while it's happening you feel a little numb even though your completely aware of what's going on.
