Subject: Mermaid in a Bowl of Tears ~Chapter 63 – Brick Walls and Broken Doors

1. I know from weeks of lurking that the Jamie & Casey relationship has been analyzed to death. But did you too feel for Casey in that he wanted his family to be taken care of but hates the fact that he owes this man for so much? Do you think he’s struggling with how he will ever repay that debt?
2. Is this powerlessness as castrating as his treatment at the hands of the Brits?
3. Did you not love Pamela’s response, “We manage without you, man, but we don’t really live”?
4. And to make it even more heartfelt, Casey went off to help Lawrence with a model airplane. Do you all see little hints of Brian here? Where else have these occurred?
• Chapter 64 – Beyond Borders
1. I was surprised that David’s superiors were aware of his “reckless” association with Pat? Are he and Pat a bit alike in that their passions sometimes outweigh all else? What other similarities do you see in their characters?
2. Are there any past loves in your lives that you wish you’d told the depths of your feelings? Or do we organize our own histories around our current realities?
3. The last sentence, “Except that he loved him, and thought perhaps Pat understood there was no force on earth that would cause David to betray that emotion”. This book is full of love and full of betrayal. Are their justifiable forces for betrayal?
