I had to do some searching to find it, but it does look like one of our 1777 French muskets that someone has reworked to make it a US 1816. It looks like the lockplate markings have been filed flat and Asa Waters markings restamped onto it. Notice hoe the finish is different between the lockplate and the other metal parts?

What I can't see on it is if it has the cutout on the left side of the buttstock, which would identify it as a converted 1777 French for sure.

FYI, we have been sorta secretly working on a Springfield 1816 project for a year now, and have had a prototype in hand for a while. The exciting news is that we have worked out all of the kinks and the first crate of production guns should be here with the next shipment.

Once they are here, I'll have to make a field trip down to the Springfield Armory NHP to compare one to an original to see if there are any details that we missed.
