1. I think that these individuals were motivated to attack swing music because it was a cultural shock to their time. I think that the people that made these comments had seen and were part of a culture that was very different, so they then opposed the new culture.

2. I think that the attacks werent racially motivated. The quotes refer to the music itself and type of dancing to be immoral, and music and dancing doesnt have any racial boundries. Examples of this is Benny Goodman (white) and Duke Ellington (black). The critics gave the same music the same criticism.

3. Music does have an influence on morals and lifestlye, but i think that the critics of swing music overestimated the immortality of swing music. i think they were more opposed to the lifestyle and culture change then they were to the music.

4. There are not specific genres or types of music that are immoral. however, there are some genres of music whuich have that immortality associated with them, whether they deserve the reputation or not. There are exeptions in all genres and types of music. there will always be some that is moral, and some that is immoral.

5. One harsh reaction to music that i remember is towards some heavy metal music. sometimes people who havent even heard a particular metal song consider it immoral because it is "heavy metal" even if there is nothing immortal, satanic, or even profane in the music.
