1. i think that these individuals singled out and attacked swing because it was americas way of breaking the mold. i think people such as Archbishop Beckman of New York and Dr. A. A. Brill were so used to the conservative backround of jazz and blues, seeing dancing and music so different from jazz and blues caught them off guard. i also think that people didnt want to accept african american influence on the changing american culture.
2. i think that in general these attacks could be racially motivated becuase swing was heavily influenced by african americans. americans didnt want to accept such an, in there eyes, immoral form of entertainment influenced by african americans. but i dont think that the context of theses quotes are pin pointed at being racial, but in general they could be.
3. i dont think that music alone could corrupt a society and culture by being a "harmful drug" or "canibalistic rhythm orgie" people were just not as open to accepting new things. i think people make the music corrupt by makeing reamarks such as calling it "orchestrated sex" and bashing on it all the time.
4.i think there are cetain songs and artists that can come across as immoral, but that is there way of making music. that is how they release and express themselves. but if its immoral you dont have to lisren to it, but other people like it.
5. i know people such britney spears and christina agulara have had harsh reactions. they came out with there own way to express themselves and many people didnt accept it becuase it was different. when rap first got big people didnt want to accept it either it was different
