1. I think some factors that motivated these individuals to single out and attack swing music in such an alarming way included the way in which swing was presented compared to earlier types of musical entertainment in pop culture. Girls skirts flying up revealing their badonk-a-donks (keisters) and such was not something these old farts were used to. Swing shocked many with it's suggestive "dirty" dancing but it was just a new hip way for the youngin's to have some good ole' fun that was unexpected and morally wrong to people of a different era/generation.
2. In a sense, you can say that these attacks were racially motivated. This isbecause, the words, "primitives" and "savages" were used, words in which could often be used to describe African Americans or maybe even other minorities back in the day. Since swing music and dance is said to have originated in black culture, I'd say that these were racial attacks.
3. I think it is in fact possible that music can do the things that they say swing does. However, it's really open for discussion and opinion based on an individual's background and experience in pop-culture. Different people are "touched" and react to different music in a variety of different ways so it's anyone's guess to be honest.
4. I'm not so sure I believe in any type of music being labeled immoral but I know alot of people do think that and once again it's a matter of opinion and not fact. I guess you could argue Satanic music is immoral to anyone who follows a "mainstream" religion butI bet those who listen to it could bring up some good points on how it's not. I'm not really sure as I've never once thought about it, I just listen to whatever sounds good in my ears/head.
5. I guess once again Satanic music has received harsh reatcions in the past and present but I'm not so sure on how high a level it has been critiqued. Maybe the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack and anything with Michael Jackson's name on it too because I mean, nobody wants an album with his retorted face on it anymore. Yeah so basically, it's an opinion deal again.
Go Issaquah tonight.
