1. The soundscape of the Beatles transformed throughout the years with a much more "Pop" feeling in the beginning years and into the middle years with songs with deeper meaning and value. The songs in their later years seemed to convey certain messages and were designed to provoke further thought rather than just "love and emotion" during the Pop years. In fact, we learned more today of the changes in instrumentation shifting from guitars, a bass, and drums to classic instruments and overtones. In some of their later works like "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," they used an A+A1+B rather than their original Pop songs/beats.
2. The lyrical content of their pop songs such as, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and even the later "Here Comes the Sun" differed greatly from titles such as "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Strawberry Fields." The focus was on psychadelic shape-shifting mongooses rather than love and mushy stuff. Drugs may or may not have had an influence on such odd lyrics but the results were entertaining.
3. A song like Eleanor Rigby could be considered a rock song if you took into consideration the amount and sound of instruments used (instrumentation). The way in which the instruments are brought forth as well as the beat and rhythm.
4. My favorite era of the Beatles is their later years with the crazy possibly drug-influenced songs because they lyrics are hilarious and the flow is smooth. However, I enjoy many of the Beatles other songs/albums as well.
