Lavender Un-pretty

Amethyst howled
through lake eyes
in the twilight
blood of the moon
sliced to the
bare bone deep
of private

tiny dancer
a whimper of child
un-pretty in lavender
and broken inside
no more the flicker of flame
but barefoot
in her own mud

her child eyes spoke
to the guilty
in the prettiest shades of
black & blue
knowing the echo
will be felt cold and hard
between their filthy toes

so she peeled off
the sick & twisted
and dressed in her Sunday best
to spin the turn table
one more limp around
but her dress wouldn't twirl
like it used to

the sky wept for innocence
but the rain wouldn't kiss
her dirty skin clean
and the sarcastic moon
smirked at bare arms
because she couldn't wear her heart
without a sleeve...
