In my opinion, the most significant foreign policy event during Eisenhower's presidential terms was the Eisenhower Doctrine. What this stated was that the US would use armed forces as a response to any act of aggression going against the US. This especially refers to the issue of communism, which the US wanted to contain and prevent from spreading further. Any nations trying to resist communism were given aid in numerous ways as well. I don't think Eisenhower could have handled the issue differently, because communism was literally viewed as a severe global threat, and its power had to be diminished. For example, if Eisenhower had done nothing during this time, then the Soviets would already be taking over the majority of Europe, and many nations would already become communist republics. This would lead to even greater chaos in Europe, which already had its German republic divided into two parts. In addition, back home in the US, our democracy probably would be consumed by communist ideals as well, if they proceeded into our nation. All of this is due to Eisenhower's and Nixon's Domino Theory, that if one country fell into the hands of communism, then the remaining countries surrounding it eventually would too. Therefore, Eisenhower's Doctrine was an effective policy to consider during his presidency.
