Eisenhower had his most success in foreign policy, when he dealt with the Suez Canal Crisis in October through November of 1956. The position began when the government in Egypt nationalized the channel, payable to the western nations withdrawing funds for the Aswan Dam. In response to the attack of the Suez Canal, the British, French and Israelis seized the canal. Eisenhower was fairly angry at this time. As a result he placed a stoppage on the invading countries. The U.N. then called for the withdrawal of the troops, forced Britain, France, and Israel to draw back. I think this gave off the correct image of the United States to the rest of the world that we don’t apply different sets of policy to different countries. This also says that we support the rights of control and self-determination of other nations around the globe.
