Girl, 12,15yo, Poland, Mandatory puberty assessment w cytosocpy and colonoscopy

I had cystoscopy - I am female. The exam took place in Eastern Europe, Poland, at 12 years old, 15 years old in the period 1980-1989. I did not know that that special cystoscopy room at school existed as it was some secret place. Had cystoscopy in a health centre.

Got a nonsense exlanation of the type: We take you to the hospial. There you will sleep and then go home again. I was picked up by a medical staff I think.


ARRANGEMENT AND ANESTHESIA

Had to stop eating several hours before the cystoscopy. Given enema during preparations.

Taken vitals like temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. A doctor came asked questions and explained.

While in bed given medicine to get very sleepy, but was awake. Fell totally in sleep after the medication. The whole bed was rolled with me upon when the time for the exam had come.

God lubricating and pain-killing fluid inserted in through the pee-hole. Got a shot to calm down and make sleepy. Got a tube into a blood vessel to give anesthesia. Got very sleepy but was conscious. Was then put totallly to sleep. Got pain-killing gas through a mask that made calm and sleepy.

Was totally naked during exam. Had a gown around me but the lower body was naked. Lay on back with legs in stirrups. Other clothings or positions please comment. on an examination table on your back in a frog position.


WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

They put a flexible snake-like cystoscope in through the urethra. They pumped upp the bladder with air or gas when looking inside. They took out the scope and inserted a new scope to take further specimens. The scope or a new intrument was inserted even further up towards the kindeys.

I am not sure but had pain on the sides of my back as if they inserted the scope even further up towards the kindneys.

They also used an ultrasond probe on the stomach to inspect the bladder area. They inserted an ultrasond probe in through the vagina to inspect the bladder and genital area.

They inspected anus with a scope They inspected with a scope some way up into the colon - sigmoidoscopy. They inspected the whole colon - full colonoscopy.


ARRANGEMENTS AGTER THE EXAM

Had catheter in the bladder some time after the exam. Had to stay in bed more that a day after the exam. Got medicines into urethra with a syringe after the exam.


FIAGNOSIS AND FOLLOW-UP

Diagnosis - low bladder capasity. Diagnosis - psychological problems. Got hormonal therapy or other medication for development disturbances. Social or psychological councelling or a training program.


THE REASON FOR THE ORDEAL

Had cystoscopy because of soicial or psychological problems or behaviour interpreted as symptoms of such problems. Had cystoscopy because of known handicaps or physical development problems.

All prepuberty girls in the area has a mandatory cystoscopy. All teenage girls in the area has a mandatory cystoscopy as a part of the puberty assessment. It was painful. It was humiliating or awful.


COMMENTS

Several societies around the world have a prectice of submitting all prepuberty or early pubertal girls, boys or both to an intimate exam including cystoscopy, genital inspection and inspection through the anus, of which her society is one.

It looks however that they performed a more thorrough exam on this girl, including full colonoscopy and inspection all the way up into the kidneys, because of registered social symptoms or handicaps.

She indicated that the exam was done in a health center, but she also mentioned a cystosopy room at the school. Possibly one of these 2 exams was done at the school, which also seems common in societies with the mentioned practice.
