Subject: UTI in children often lead to cystoscopy

In many societies children that once have had an ITI, and especially boys will automatically get a cystoscopy.

Tt is said that certain development anomalies in the urinary system lead to UTI and than an UTI is a sign that such anomalies exist that should be treated.

The current recommendation that I last read is that all boys that have had an UTI and all girls that have had more than one UTI shall be examined endoscopically.

From there it is not far to get the idea that all children shall have a cystoscopy at certain ages to detect anomalies and prevent UTI.

My investigations seem to indicate that many societies indeed have established that practice, but never tell much about it to the general public.

And Yes, a cystoscopy performed clumsily can lead to infection or mechanical injuries. If the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, this in addition gives risks and bad side effects.

My stance after having gone through a lot of reports is that all children might benefit form a simple cystoscopy without any kind of surgical component just to look id something is wrong, but done with local anesthesia. With modern instruments this is fully possible without causing much discomfort.
