How would they numb the urethra sufficiently for a cystoscopy with the child awake? Just numbing gel through the urethra? Local anesthetic injection sounds painful for the child.

Do many reports suggest epidural anesthesia during procedures?

It still surprises me that a cystoscopy performed as part of a secret research program wouldn't regularly have complications like bladder control issues for a while after the procedure for some children.

If children experience these issues, wouldn't that justify further exams repeatedly?
