As a contestant in this pageant, I have to say I was not surprised about the Diane as winner and the top 5. I can tell you that Diane only came to one rehearsal (she lives in TX and so only flew into 1) and she did not know her routines or dances at all. So all of us girls were surprised when she came out with a stunning walk and knew all the steps for the Media Event back in May. I knew then, she knew what was going on because of her previous pageant experience. If you google her, you'll see that she won Miss Korea Texas and that she has close connections with Miss Korea (Honey Lee) and with the new Miss USA (Crystal Stewart) and even Donald Trump. Perhaps Virgelia wanted to use Diane for her obvious connections with the more prestigous pageants of Miss USA and Miss Universe. Also, during the pageant night backstage, she was very haughty and walked with an air of confidence. I don't know where Diane gets it from because most of us girls were either nervous or nonchalant because we knew that Diane was going to place in at least the top 5. I mean, she killed it at the Media Event. Some of us knew then that we were in for a real competition after that point.
Now this is not my first pageant, and come on now people, you cannot be that naive to think that sponserhips, advertisements, whatever you want to call it (money money money) does not play a role in the decision. I mean look at even the prestigious Miss Universe...hello, MISS JAPAN won when clearly she should not have. Why? Hmm, maybe because 1. the event was sponsered by a lot of Japanese companies like the crown and production set, 2. Miss Japan's coach is chummy chummy with the Miss Universe organization. So yes, most of you general public in the audience do not know of the money and politics that go in pageants, including this one. It's not fair or right, but it's reality. As pretty as some of these girls were, if you don't have any money backing you, you might as well not come in. Sad but true. The next time you see a Miss USA or Miss Universe on TV, look for the delegate with the most expensive designer gowns on...10 times out of 10 she'll be crowned queen. In this day and age, when a C+ idiot can be voted (bought) as President of USA, how hard is it to realize that pageants, big and small, have the same thing going on? My advice for future girls, next time bring your padded bras, airbrush makeup artist, and your checkbook.
