OUTS:
I won the flag and responded by trading out, far and away, my best player... I still do not quite believe it. Clayton Oliver - sorry mate, it was nothing personal, but this is a brutal game! I gain a little bit of relief thinking of it as only costing me David Swallow (sorry Shy).
.
Okay, so quite a few fringe/depth players made way, primarily for list space. The Warriors traded out Shane McAdam, Brodie Mihocek, Marlion Pickett, and delisted Callum AhChee (now a Cat), Kyron Hayden and Michael Hibberd. Warriors also lost another Richmond KPD to a surprise retirement, but this one did not have the same sting as Rance (sorry David Astbury). All up Warriors made 8 list changes.
.
.
INS:
Traded:
- Tom Stewart: Warriors were keen to add another KPD to the list after losing Astbury and also aware of McEvoy and Blicavs aging, but were thinking a depth player like a possible Daniel Talia, or trying to draft one like Leek Aleer. Being able to land Stewart was a huge win for the Warriors, though obviously the price was high, losing Clayton Oliver
.
- Jack Crisp: The 2nd component to the Oliver trade. Crisp becomes another automatic best 18 player for the Warriors, adding another gun to the half-back line.
.
- Tim Membrey: Warriors were not looking for a KPF, feeling that they are already well catered for in this area, but Membrey became the 3rd component to the Oliver trade, and will add even more strength to the Warriors forward half.
.
- Charlie Cameron: On average, Charlie Cameron is not a great SL player, however his finish to 2021 was very promising. Cameron will need to improve his game to be a regular at the Warriors. Whether he can or not is to be seen, but we know that it will be fun to watch regardless. The fourth and final player component to the Oliver trade.
.
- Ned Reeves: Warriors targeted Reeves early, knowing that Ceglar was likely to be pushed out at the Hawks, and McEvoy aging. The get was soured a little by Hawks also getting Max Lynch, but Warriors are still confident that Reeves has a future at AFL level, and is confident that if he is playing, he is scoring enough SC points to be relevant.
.
Drafted:
- Josh Fahey (Pick 32): A very likely DEF2-D/M with a booming kick and has performed well in big games. More importantly, he is at GWS, and they seem to love his type.
.
- Bodhi Uwland (Pick 36): A somewhat unknown DEF2/Inside who like Fahey was an academy member for his club (GCS). Uwland comes with some big wraps, and has been likened in playing style to Luke Hodge as a general type across half back. Uwland most likely will play in the middle though, where is toughness and competitiveness will be on display.
.
- Marcus Windhager (Pick 38): Yet another Academy member, this time at the Saints. Windhager is a tough and explosive M/F-Inside who has been under the radar a bit due to injuries, but is the one Warriors are most looking forward to seeing what he can do.
.
.
FUTURES:
Warriors were also very active on the future pick trading front, trading out their their future 1st, 2nd, and 4th picks, but endig up with a much better haul overall, and enter the 2022 season with SIX picks in the 15-45 draft range:
- Kings Future 2nd
- Burras Future 3rd
- Bombers Future 3rd
- Staghounds Future 3rd
- Bruins Future 3rd
- Warriors Future 3rd
.
.
