Subject: Things can change so much to each teams availabilty

I remember last year, speaking with The Ox about his Ruck issues. I at the time, thought, this is not good, but I was distanced from it. It didn't increase my anxiety or worry me any once I stopped talking about it.

It did for the Ox though. Every moment he spent on the side, in the back of his mind, he was constantly thinking about the downfall in his side.

I understand that now. More than ever. I had Witts, who played every game pretty much from the time he left Collingwood. I had Stanley, playing every match. I was rich in the area.

How quickly that changed. And do we just recruit more Rucks in? Then when the favoured Rucks come back, we have too many rucks? Is that the game plan?

In looking through all the sides, some sides have done what people are doing at our shopping centres at the first sign that we have covid cases. They are stockpiling. They have Rucks five to six deep. That is not realistic. It is over kill. But the coaches have felt the need to do this, because of the balance rules.

I seem to have injuries in my Def 2's all the time as well. I seem to go from having enough, to none, real quick. Howe going down, Ethan Hughes going down Nelson losing form, and even Sheppard lost form. Gardner as a third tall KPD was also injured. And each week, I am tempted to send a Mid Def deeper into the Defence to cover the losses, but I can't. It was such a relief when Laverde got swapped into defence for Essendon. What if I was not onto asking that question for Laverde in the small window that was open to make changes? How many -50 points might I have got?

The anxious task that The Ox had, was now upon me. And I don't suppose any coach will fully understand what it is like, unless it happens to them.

Losing points when you aren't getting many sucks. Losing a game because the penalties would even suck more. You know why? Because we care. That's a good thing.

Flexible as the original request was to let a half back flanker go further back to a pocket if no other option was there. Flexible was just to understand the dynamics of the given side, and the issues they had, to show lenience at the individual level. Flexibility to change the Balance of your side as we went along, rather than be locked out of changing anything for six months. Flexibility that does not feel what is happening here. Not just for me, but for AT LEAST another 4 coaches, one of whom has left.
