In reply to: tenderWARRIOR 's message, "2020 Post Draft Reviews" on 12/12/20 5:53am

Kings much more active in this years draft than normal in an attempt to back my gut instincts in, I had 2 players in my sights for the better part of 12 months and managed to get both of them.

About 3 months before the draft, both Perkins and Powell started to get significant traction in the draft rankings which I was very disappointed to see! Both jumping from around pick 20-25 to top 10 potential. Once I noticed this happening I got to work securing a couple of late first round picks to lock them in, trading picks with 4 coaches by the end of it to make it happen. This turned both players from must have bargains to correct value so I was still happy to pay.

Kings have a lot of average players, 15 players averaging between 80-100 but no real star. I've taken a bit of a risk with my draft picks hoping to fill that gap in the midfield within a couple of seasons.

Archie Perkins:
X-factor, outside mid with the desire to get on ball. Not a huge accumulator of the ball, but very supercoach friendly with what he does with it. IF he can get his numbers up he will score very well.

Tom Powell:
Inside mid, ball accumulator, will hopefully round out a North Melbourne midfield with Phillips, LDU, Simpkin and Dumont once some of the older players retire. Roos need to work on maintaining possession of the ball - Powell should hopefully help with that. High posession winner, smart safe decisions - a bit like Matt Crouch at a glance, very supercoach friendly.

Cameron Fleeton:
General defender who plays key when needed, taking a few big scalps in his junior years. Similar players in this role are rubbish at GWS...Idun, Buntine, Keefe, Stein. Hoping to see him get on the park as early as 2021. Risky with the ball, plays across the face. Could be another supercoach friendly kick-in player for GWS in time once he gets used to the pace of the AFL.

____

Kings are going in again with a very young team, average age of 22.5 with at least one top age delisting in the pre-season draft. Because of this I think positions will rotate a lot with form as per usual.

____

Predicted starting line up:

DEFENCE:
Scrimshaw Logue Duggan
Crisp Stewart Cerra

Others who may push for KINGS best 22:
Smalls: Burton, Stack, Lipinski
Talls: Ballard, Marchbank, Plowman, Fox

If Burton can overcome his injuries and Stack can pull his head in, they should push out scrimshaw here (especially once Sicily is back later in the season). This may be the last season I can enjoy Cerra as a defender, only spending 36.4% time in defence in 2020. Down from over 65% in 2019. Lipinski can play on the flank after playing more defence this year - but rather use him in the mids when named.
Talls will rotate, Stewart is a lock but I can see Ballard, Logue, Fox rotating in the second spot all year.

____

MIDFIELD:
Amon Miller LDU
Dumont McInerney Powell-Pepper

Others who may push for best 22:
Lipinski, Perkins, Powell, De Koning

Midfield seems pretty solid pending injuries. I'm hoping Perkins or Powell can get a best 22 slot in at weaker AFL teams and push out Amon - I don't like seeing him in there!

Lipinski is starved of game time, and is very good when he plays - when named he's a lock for my 22 each week.
I've loved the look of TDK since his junior years, looking to be sharing the ruck role with Pittonet while he matures but could start to see some bigger scores here as he transitions back in to the ruck.

____

FORWARDS:
Berry Membrey Parfitt
Cameron Pruess Higgins

Others who may push for best 22:
Fisher, Lipinski, King, De Koning, Ratugolea, Murphy, Taylor

Forwards also seem fairly sound. Charlie Cameron may be the first to drop with Fisher doing well as a small forward back from injury and Higgins hopefully seeing some midfield time at the saints.

Key talls will be interesting, Pruess seems to be a lock for GWS primary ruck at the moment so may lose KPF by the end of the year, but should service well as a KPF for now. Ratugolea, De Koning, King, Lewis are all young up and comers who may feature if Membrey has another stinker year - but he should bounce back.
