Oh boy, you must have had your hands full for those 24 hrs! Do you have to keep the dogs leashed up the whole time?

I wish a little of Bear's demeanor would rub off on Pea. She really had a rough summer--her fear issues got significantly worse. She is really sensitive to noises and most of the time it's hard to tell what has triggered her intense fears. She got to the point where she would just shut down on walks and I would have to call someone to pick us up. Then she wouldn't leave the driveway for a while. We're still working with the trainers and she's come a long way. We are working with having her focus on me and being able to get her attention before she gets to her threshold. I think I'm getting a lot better at reading her signals and able to distract her or get her to focus on me while on our walks. Our goal is to have her looking up at me for the entire walk--that will make her world so much smaller. It's been a lot of hard work and usually we take one step forward and two steps back, but she'll get there. But it will just be a lifetime of management techniques because there is no way to "fix" her.

Bear is certainly bomb-proof when it comes to noises. We were wandering through a shopping center just for some ongoing socialization and we were standing right in front of a parked car who's alarm when off. It was so loud and it scared the crap out of me, I jumped. Bear just stood there and didn't even bat an eye. Thank God it wasn't Sweet Pea who was with me!

Unfortunately though, Bears follow up xrays didn't come back good. The operation didn't work and the surgeon said to just wait until he's bad enough for a total hip replacement. So we are going to see a canine physical therapist next week and get a second opinion with another ortho surgeon. It's never dull around here!! I'll post some pics of the gremlins.
