I apologize for the late response. Had a cardiac event that put me in the hospital and rehab. I am fine now and really glad to get back into a firm girdle.

So my wife is of the 60's generation when every young woman wore a girdle. My daughters all wore girdles and ran around the house in underwear with bra, stockings and girdles. This was before the pantyhose became popular. My boys thought nothing of girdles but asked why girdles were the underwear of choice for girls and wanted to know why men didn't have girdles.
The boys asked if they should wear girdles and my wife said it was up to them. In the 60's there were girdles for men from JC Penny, Montgomery Wards and Sears. She told them they could get a men's girdle if they wanted one. So we got them a men's girdle similar to today's hockey girdles but they were disappointed. OK, men's girdles were a plain drab disaster so my wife said they could try a hand-me-down girdle from their older sisters to see if they were OK. Well that was all it took, they loved the lace and the firmness but were kind of embarrassed until my wife said that their dad (me) wore her hand-me-downs. It was not so much of wearing a girdle but rather how well the girdle kept reminding you to keep in good shape. It is interesting that my oldest daughter is the only one that does not wear a girdle. I think the main point for my kids was not so much wearing a girdle but rathe how well they help to keep you in shape. Both my wife and myself enjoy girdles every day.
