i have been sick for a few weeks now and have had 2 antibiotics. currently on the second one and nothing is working and i seem to be getting worse. at this point i really think i need to talk to my doctor about giving me an antibiotic injection to make me feel better. i never had one before and that alone scares me into not wanting to ask for one. i have a severe needle phobia and hate getting shots and needles. also i heard that an antibiotic injection was very very painful and that i would need to have more then one shot as well. would it be possible for me to get the injection in my tight as it would make me more comfortable? how do i get up the nerve to ask my doc if he thinks an antibiotic injection would be good for me? if my doctor says yes 1. how many shots can i expect to receive, 2 how do i calm down my fear and anxiety about having to get a painful shot, 3. is there a way to make the shot less painful as i have a low pain tolerance, 4. is there a way for a nurse to hold my hand and distract me while i get the shot so i can take my mind off of all the pain i am about to go thru. thanks. P.S. i already know ahead of time that i would be receiving the Rocephin injection as i am allergic to anything in the penicillin family. please help and nervous and scared.

Generally, Rocephin therapy should be continued for at least 2 days after the signs and symptoms of infection have disappeared. The usual duration of therapy is 4 to 14 days; in complicated infections, longer therapy may be required.

You don't necessariy need an antibiotic shot. Many antibiotics are available as an oral pill.
