When I was a kid, getting a shot in the bum was a not-uncommon component of a medical visit -- every kid was familiar with the experience. (I understood from my mother that, when she was a child, it was almost inevitable: Seeing the doctor was a pretty sure sign that you would be rolling over on your tummy, for a painful injection.) When I was a middle-school teacher (late '90s - early '00s), I realized that most of my students were not familiar with getting shots in the bottom, and some were surprised to hear that the practice had once been the norm. My eldest son is a year older than you, and, to my recollection, all the intramuscular injections he ever received were his thigh when he was a baby, and in his shoulder in later years. Assuming your account is true, did you have an uncommon medical condition that necessitated getting all these shots in your bottom -- or do you think your doctor just was just sticking (no pun intended) to an older way of doing things? I was once hospitalized due to malaria and received many injections and IVs through cannula when I was young. Never received any injections after that except few vaccinations. And never in the butt. I don't know if it's because I was never badly sick or the doctor I usually went to didn't have faith in injections like other doctors did. I'm 22 as well and it's hard for people to believe because injections are really common here. I think it's very hard to generalize. And about this sadistic doctor thing. Once I connected to someone on a site who claimed to be a pediatrician in USA. He told me really creepy things. Like he takes the kids upstairs without their parents to inject so the parents can't hear them scream. He said one time a young skinny girl visited him and the moment he saw her he knew he was going to destroy her butt. About the person you blocked: Good choice. That's really disgusting, and feel pretty confident in guessing that the guy is not any kind of doctor. I don't think it's at all plausible that a pediatrician would get away from insisting on separating children from their parents for injections for very long, before some parents began complaining and reporting him. They usually are given in the thigh until the toddler can walk, because until then, the thigh is a larger muscle than the glute. Once they start walking, the glute develops. I'm older and only recall getting shots in the butt until I was ?9, and then in the arm. The other thing middle school kids in the '90s and beyond wouldn't be familiar with are rectal temps.
